One of our contributors has sent us this wonderful photo of her great grandmother, Margaret Pederson/Carlson which we think was taken at a football ground in the North Shields area. We aren't sure and have no further details. Could you provide any? Use our contact us page to get in touch.

We all try to get the best rate for our holiday spending money but we're unlikely to get back to the rates shown on this 1934 newspaper cutting!

The enhanced photogallery added in February 2009 has allowed us to show a very much larger selection of interesting photographs than was possible previously, but the photos that are displayed on other parts of the site have not changed in over three years and we thought it was about time for a change. Over the next few weeks the photographs that are sprinkled throughout the site will be updated. We have already updated the main page of the site with a particularly interesting photograph of Tynemouth Long sands. Come back an visit us regulary to see the other new photographs that we will be adding.

There has been a search facility on this website for over three years now that allowed site visitors to find a memory that contained a particular word or phrase, but since the photo gallery was added in February 2009 it was thought that it would be a good idea to allow searching of this part of the webste also. Well, it has now been added. Each screen will show an extended search box at the top left which allows site visitors to find, not only text within a memory, but images from our extensive photo gallery as well. Click on the word help in the search box for more details.

The waiting is now over and the new sound clips and enhanced photogallery are now available to all visitors to our website.
The new features break down in to two parts, sound clips of memories and the photo gallery.
Sound clips
Sound clips will be added to more and more memories over the next few months, these sound clips are an audio version of the memory, similar to an audio book.
Soundclips will be read by some of the volunteers to the Remembering the Past, Resourcing the Future project..
Photogallery
The new photogallery is fully searchable allowing visitors to our website to choose photographs of selected topic areas, such as wartime, pastimes, the 1940's and even adverts!
As with the soundclips more and more photographs will be added in the near future so come back often

We are pleased to announce that the work to add soundclips to memories and a much enhanced photo gallery is almost complete. This work was possible because of the grant given to the Remembering the Past, Resourcing the Future project by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
We have been trying out the new features on a special testing website and we are now very excited about the benefits that these new features will bring to the site.
Visit us again towards the end of January 2009 when we will have more information about when the new features will be available to visitors to the website.
