News Archive 2011

We are almost at the end of 2011 and would like to wish all of our web site visitors, contributors and volunteers a very merry Christmas a happy New Year for 2012.

Two new excellent photos have been given to the project. North Shields Fish Quay at night and one of the many fishing boats from the quay.

Family life in the 1950's

Sometimes we are given an image that sums up a particular aspect of our local life of the past.  This is one that epitomises family life in 1950s, it shows .  Note the smart dress for both parents and baby, the beautiful baby stroller and the distant view of the south pier of the River Tyne.

Spanish City is a visitor success

English Heritage have confirmed that the Spanish City was their most popular attraction during 2010's Heritage Open Days festival in September.  Over 12,000 people queued to have a nostalgic look round the building.  Our thanks to photographer Ernest Storey for compiling this montage for us.

100 Memory Challenge

Staff and volunteers in the RPRF project have launched a ‘one hundred memory’ challenge and we’d be delighted if any of our website visitors would like to be part of it.

The aim is to collect 100 new memories by 31st March 2012 and display them on our website.  Memories can cover any subject that has a connection to North Tyneside in the 20th Century and they can be short or long, poetry, prose, spoken, photographic etc, etc.

Each contributor will get a presentation set of their memory, which makes a nice gift for members of the family.

If you’d like to find out more or send in a draft of your memory please use the ‘Contact Us’ page on the website.
